Hello Whole Health Dana
During the summer of 2014, a dream started forming in my heart. A dream of starting a blog so I could share with anyone who would listen that there is a better way of living. A way that promotes health and prevents disease. So I spent the last half of the year learning, experimenting and living the life I was about to share. I didn’t know it at the time but Whole Health Dana was starting to become a reality.
At the beginning of 2015, I was ready to build my website. I was full of big dreams and excitement. Erroneously, I thought I knew enough to jump in and get started. Thankfully at that same time, I received an email from one of my favorite resources, Dr Josh Axe. He was offering an online health coaching course and half of the classes revolved around much needed info like marketing and websites. It was the answer to a prayer that I didn’t know enough to pray for. So I did something that I NEVER do and I said YES. I signed up right away without spending a week to ponder it.
Immediately I requested membership in the private Facebook page set up for the class. Leslie Nance from Fort Collins, CO, started a separate page for those of us in Colorado to get to know each other. I made a very special friend that day. That chance email and lucky meeting with Leslie were the 2 most important events that made Whole Health Dana a lasting reality.
Inspired To Be Whole Health Dana
I am not going to go into great deal because it is a story I have told before. You can read my whole story here if like. I also have a video here. The brief synopsis is, Whole Health Dana was born from my personal loss. 7 months after my marriage began, it was cut short when my husband lost his battle with cancer. It was during that time of grief that I wholeheartedly began learning about cancer.
Initially I just wanted to know what cancer is, how does it form and can it be cured. That began months of learning. As new information presented itself, I followed more and more rabbit holes. What began to emerge, is a story about a food system that sells us poisonous food, a medical system that cares more about money and it’s survival than it cares about curing disease and a whole industry that sells us personal care and cleaning products that are full of toxic chemicals. I discovered that I am disposable and so are you.
That is when the dream started to form. Everyone needs to know that most cancer is actually preventable through a clean diet and non-toxic lifestyle changes.
It was hard to know what to focus on because an anticancer lifestyle isn’t just about what you eat, what you breathe, what you put on your body or how active you are. I wanted to talk about it all. So I decided on the name WholeHealthDiva.com because I wanted to teach people how to make positive changes in all of these areas. I wanted to focus on WHOLE HEALTH.
I chose the word Diva instead of Dana because I wanted to be more anonymous. There are a bunch of crazies out there and I didn’t really want anyone to know who I am. I also prefer living life under the radar. I don’t like to be noticed or stand out. But then a friend told me she didn’t like Diva because it sounded like I thought I was some sort of princess. So I said YES to Whole Health Dana. I would be more transparent and I’d be a real person who had a story to share.
Before Whole Health Dana
So today is Valentine’s Day and it is also my wedding anniversary. I thought it would be a perfect day to kick off the new Whole Health Dana of 2017. This year I am still going to have great recipes and teach how to live a less toxic lifestyle but I am also going to be more open about cancer, living with cancer, taking care of cancer and empowering people everywhere to prevent cancer now.
But, before I said yes to my blog…I said YES to one patient and loving man who chased me for 9.5 years. During that time he bought me diamonds, took me on trips and cherished me above all things. Yes he was crazy…few men would do all that and get nothing in return other than friendship. I guess his heart knew what it wanted.
Since today begins a new day at Whole Health Dana, I thought I would share with you one of my most private moments with the man I loved. We had a small wedding with close friends and family next to a beach. This is the day I said YES to the man who inspired me to say YES to my life’s calling.
Please do not feel sorry for me. While I miss him every second of every day, I have found my happy once again and I love the new me. I am sure that Hugo is looking down from a portal in Heaven and is pleased that his memory is part of a powerful movement. A movement causing a ripple effect of health and wellness around the world.
Happy Valentine’s day to all my friends and family. Blessings to you in 2017!
P.S. If you are wondering about the song in the video, Hugo hired a friend of ours to write it. It was meant to be a proposal, but he never used it. During his first chemo, Hugo was hospitalized for 28 days. My birthday fell during that time and since he had no way of getting me a gift, he gave me the song on a flash drive. This song carries with it, a sweet sweet memory.
